Welcome to Blakemere’s Christmas 2008 Newsletter. We hope you find it informative and it keeps you aware of what’s new and happening at Blakemere.
Christmas at Blakemere…
Santa opens his Grotto at Blakemere at 11.30am on Saturday 22nd November 2008. Children can visit him in his fairy-light Grotto, which will be open every Saturday and Sunday up to the 21st December from 11.30am until 4.00pm. Plus, due to popular demand, the Grotto will now be open on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd December from 12 noon until 3.00pm and on Christmas Eve from 11.30am until 1.30pm when he will have to rush off to help his Elves load the sleigh.
Each child decorates and writes their Christmas Wish List and then hangs it on our Wish Tree before a short walk through our winter wonderland forest with one of Santa’s Elves to their private family visit with Father Christmas, where they will receive a small pre-Christmas present! Tickets are available from the Coffee Bar in the Courtyard at £5.00 per child (which includes a free tea or coffee voucher per Grotto ticket, for Mum or Dad).
Come and see our magical festive snowflakes fall in the cobbled courtyard whilst you visit Blakemere each Saturday and Sunday whilst the Grotto is open – it turns our Edwardian stable block into a festive winter wonderland!
Local choirs or hand Bell Ringers perform carols in the courtyard every Sunday afternoon from 23rd November up to Christmas between 1.00pm and 4.00pm.
The Coffee Kiosk is also open every weekend throughout the festive period offering hot Turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce batches, hot homemade soup with croutons and speciality teas and coffees – ideal to grab a quick bite between visiting Santa and listening to the festive entertainment in the courtyard.
Our individual shops are full of unique and unusual presents and gifts, which are ideal for loved ones at Christmas.
And if your feeling the credit crunch why not save yourself some pennies by creating your own gifts and Christmas cards this year. Simply visit The Wendy House for card making supplies, Thimbletown for numerous craft supplies and kits, The Bead Trail for jewellery making supplies and bead weaving materials and The Potters Wheel to make pottery items or to paint and decorate bisque ware items of your choice.
Christmas Extravaganza Evening
This year, rather than opening on a specific weekly night for late night shopping up to Christmas, we have decided to make it more fun and celebrate the festive season by holding a Christmas Extravaganza Evening on Wednesday 26th November from 5pm until 9pm.
This is designed to be a fun, festive, family event to kick start your Christmas shopping with exclusive Special Offers, Discounts, Free Prize Draws, Raffles, Money Off Vouchers and even “freebies” available only to shoppers on the night!
School choirs will perform carols in the courtyard, our Santa’s Grotto will be open from 5pm until 8pm, there will be lots of festive activities and demonstrations and our courtyard will be adorned with decorations and lights and filled with magical snowflakes!
Christmas fayre will be available in our licensed restaurant with a Christmas Carvery on offer by prior booking only; starting from £7 per person (£3.50 per child), or alternatively you can grab a turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce batch from our Coffee Bar in the courtyard.

Antique & Collectors Fair
Don’t miss our first event of 2009 – a bustling Antique and Collectors Fair on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th January 2009. The fair will have over 40 stalls of antiques and collectible items including Glassware, Postcards, Furniture, Jewellery and China to name but a few. Free valuation service available. Admission is £1 per adult, children free. The fair is open from 10am until 5pm on both days.
Future Developments…
We are currently in the process of obtaining Planning consent to re-develop the old Garden Centre building and adjacent workshops into a new catering establishment and new craft workshops. Please bear with us during this period of development, we appreciate that this area does not look flourishing and very pleasant on the eye in its current condition. This is for a temporary period only and the end result will definitely be worth it!! Wait and see…
